In this talk, Sasa contests the modern day interpretation of intellectual property laws, questioning why society judges the “remixed” art of Christian Marclay to be more legitimate than the equivalent remix of the DJ as a producer, musician and creator. This is at the core of postmodernism: taking previous forms and ideas and combining them creatively to forge new ones. In the last 30 years the dj really has set itself apart: bringing to life countless new music genres such as hip hop, house and their sub-genres. He puts forward a case for why we must end excessive litigation within the music industry in order to promote the future progress of musical creativity in all of its crafts
Julien believes that its not enough to be content from one burst of innovation or creativity. He talks about how Laid Back coalesced from an amalgamation of new web services, his own interests and personal beliefs. He emphasises that none of these projects are a solitary exercise, and that all of his stories involve collaborations between many people across both the physical and digital worlds.
